Before an audience of more than 250 Orange Countians of all ages at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum, Dr. Benjamin Franklin and General George Washington engaged in a riveting, lively, and sometimes humorous conversation about their individual lives and their collaboration during the most critical times in our country’s early history. Introduced as the “Father” and “Grandfather” of the United States, the conversation touched on events from the French and Indian War and the Constitutional Convention to their contributions to the Revolutionary War effort at home (Washington) and abroad (Franklin).
A special contribution to the event was a brief musical performance by David Mauldin on the armonica, a musical instrument invented by Franklin for which Mozart and Beethoven composed.
After the event, guests were invited to take photos with Franklin, Washington, and Mauldin and purchase copies of “Franklin’s” book, “The Greatest American.” For those interested in obtaining an inscribed copy (including a 1947 Washington-Franklin postage stamp) for only $24, go to http://www.skousenbooks.com. He will mail you a copy at no additional charge.
Many thanks to USA250-OC, the Nixon Foundation, the Richard Nixon Presidential Foundation, Charlie Zhang, the Orange County Register, and C-SPAN.
C-SPAN covered the event which will be aired in the near future.
