Hawaii America 250 is promoting an inspiring, all-community, across-the-nation event for July 8, 2026. It was on that date, 250 years ago, when the Declaration of Independence was read to the general public. Copies were printed and distributed as the citizens of Philadelphia were summoned to the State House Yard by the bells of the city. Then, Colonel John Nixon publicly read the historic proclamation.

Just as the Declaration was read to the people 250 years ago, Hawaii is encouraging Americans everywhere to pause, gather together, and read it once again – at the same time it was read by Col. Nixon.  In California, that would be 3:00 p.m.

USA250-OC enthusiastically endorses Hawaii’s initiative, called “Sharing the Spirit of America,” and encourages people and organizations everywhere throughout Orange County to join. Distribute copies of the Declaration.  Choose a convenient place to gather and assign or ask for volunteers to read portions of the document. One or two people can read the Preamble. Others can read the list of grievances against King George, which impelled the colonies to rebel. Read them slowly…and ponder their meaning, for then as well as today.

Make it an event. Rejoice together. Put all partisan differences aside. Join together as AMERICANS ALL. Then…let our friends and fellow Americans in Hawaii know you participated.  To “register” your participation, go to https://hawaiiamerica250.org/share-your-reading-location.

Let USA250-OC know you participated in “Sharing the Spirit of America.”
